In typical Internet media placements, you will pay by the impression or on a per click basis. Affiliate marketing is different in that you only pay when an affiliate partner (website that hosts your advertisement) generates a sale, lead, subscription, etc. The action (sale, lead, etc.) is up to you. For example, if an affiliate partner is running banners for your e-commerce website, then you can choose to pay them 15% of any sale they generate. They will only be paid after a sale has been generated and validated on your end.
